In Loving Memory of Stanley Jones 1938-2023
Stan was born in Preston 6th September 1938.
He was the sixth child of Ted and Agnes Jones,
and grew up in Tattersall Street, off North Road
with his brothers and sisters Ted, Bill, Frank, Mary,
Catherine and Cliff. He went to St Thomas’s and
then to Trinty where he played in the Cricket and
Football teams, and played for Preston School Boys.
He went to Blackburn Rovers Youth. Later years
played for Roach Bridge and West End.
He joined his beloved Scots Guards – 2nd Btn,
serving in Cyprus, Germany, Suez and was in the
Guards Independent Para Company and for many
years Secretary of the Scots Guards Association.
After leaving the Scots Guards , he worked for
‘Visionhire’ and the Gas Board.
He married his beloved wife Val and had a daughter
Pamela and son Stephen. He was Secretary of the
55th Club and relished making it one of the best
Clubs in Preston, keeping the military traditions.
He also combined this with being Parade Marshall
for the annual Remembrance Sunday Parade for
many years until he had throat cancer. Him and Val
enjoyed the Bull and Royal for a drink during the
day for a number of years and made a lot of friends,
and then started to go into Hogarths, which he loved.
