Newspaper
Obituary Notice
An obituary or death announcement is often placed in a newspaper to inform people that somebody has passed away. Details in the announcement may also include family names.
The announcement will usually have the funeral details, day, time and place of the service. It can also state if donations are to be collected and for which charity.
Acknowledgement Notice
Following the service, you may wish to express your thanks and appreciation. This can often be with a formal acknowledgement in a newspaper.
Often families like to pass on their thanks to friends, relatives and neighbours. Also to specific people who have helped and given special care.
The Garstang Courier, Lancaster Guardian and Lancashire Evening Post, also to the national papers such as The Times and The Telegraph.
If you need help or advice on how to place an announcement in a paper orperhaps just a few tips on writing a suitable notice, then please let us know and we can assist you.
Reception Catering
We can assist you with organising a suitable venue for you to hold a reception and guide you through choices of refreshments.
We have great local knowledge of many places around Garstang and the surrounding areas to suggest. Alternatively, you may wish us to organise somewhere closer to the place of committal.
We are happy to discuss your requirements and give advice whether you would like to arrange the reception yourself or we can take of this for you.
Funeral Cars
A Traditional Hearse is used to convey your loved one to the funeral. This can be as part of an official cortege. Usually, the cortege would meet and leave from the person’s home address, or another family member’s address.
To make the official cortege more unique, we can always pass and maybe pause somewhere of sentimental importance en-route to the service.
Accompanying limousines can be chosen to follow the hearse to the funeral. Our chauffeur driven limousines can seat 7 passengers and once the service has concluded, will return you back home or to a chosen reception venue.
Alternatively, you may wish to follow in your own car or instead meet directly at the place of service.
Something Different Perhaps?
Here are some examples of speciality Hearse vehicles that can be chosen to convey your loved one to the funeral.
From a Victorian Horse & Carriage with black or white Horses to an expertly converted VW Camper Van.
Something more fitting for a rural community with farming heritage, a special adapted Land Rover 110 or the 1955 Traditional Tractor with Trailer.

We offer a wide range of services to cater for your memorial masonry requirements.
Using an expert team of local stonemasons, we can help you create that lasting memorial to remember someone and give tribute to them.
New Headstones
We can help you through the process of choosing a new headstone. All the different types, styles including advice on inscription, layout and fixing.
Ashes Plaques
We can assist you with choosing a suitable ashes memorial if the ashes have been buried in a local churchyard or cemetery.
Renovations & Added Inscriptions
Should you need to add a further inscription on an existing memorial, headstone or ashes plaque, we can advise you.
Perhaps there is an existing memorial that needs attention and could benefit from a renovation. We can assess the memorial and advise on the next appropriate steps.
Permits, Rules & Regulations
Many churches and cemeteries have rules and regulations about what type of stone is allowed, including the wording of the inscription.
We have extensive knowledge of our local CofE churches, RC Churches and cemeteries to advise you on the various rules. We can also arrange all the necessary permits and applications needed.
Charitable Donations
As part of our services we include the collection and administration
of charitable donations received in memory of the person
It is becoming more common to ask for a charitable donation in lieu of flowers at the funeral.
We have a special made donations collection box set out with a bespoke sign to draw peoples attention. We provide pens and private envelopes for added discretion. All set out on a dedicated table.
Once collected, the donations will be banked into our dedicated ‘Charities Donations Account’ ensuring full transparency and accountability.
A full and accurate list will be kept detailing who has made a donation. After the 4-6 week window has elapsed since the funeral, the donations will be sent to the nominated charity. We will write to you informing you of the final total donated and a list of any specific donors you may wish to thank.
